In India a country with a population of 130 crores we are struggling to find a way to even park our cars leave aside driving cars effortlessly! The public corporations are trying every possible thing under sun to improve parking facilities. Policy makers are also trying to impose rules like ‘No Parking Facility No Car’ and ‘Only One Car per family’.
In spite of all such efforts traffic chaos in our city roads is not eliminated. But in USA Researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have collaborated with BMW to address the problem of traffic congestion with Inflatable Cars. Yes! Balloon Cars which can change its shape and size on the move to adjust to the traffic and road conditions is envisioned. These cars are not made of metal but soft-textured material and called 3D Printed soft-bodied cars by MIT researchers.
Making of 3D Printed Soft-Bodied Cars
According to Founder of Self-Assembly Lab at MIT, Skylar Tibbits and BMW Brand Vision Head Martina Starke following ingredients make Soft-Bodied Balloon Cars a reality:
- Instead of Programming with ZEROES & ONES these CARS are programmed with AIR
- Air-Bags will not be the only component built with ‘air’ in future cars. instead its body and interiors will be built with air
- Cars needn’t have a particular shape it can be programmed to change shape and size as per the needs of traffic conditions
- No parking Facility No Woes, you can deflate the car and park!
- This is possible as car body will be made of a stretchy material built using Rapid Liquid Printing techniques
- This Stretchy material are called adaptive material as they can give a different look to your car everyday you step in. Monday official looking car and weekend picnic mood texture.
Though MIT and BMW have successfully tested these Liquid Printed Pneumatics car design. It will take still more years for these cars to hit the roads. The day Soft-bodied cars starts plying on roads majority of our traffic congestion problems get addressed and particularly Parking Problem we find in thickly populated countries like India and China will be eased out.
